Mantrailing

Mantrailing is one of the fastest growing dog sports in the UK. Think of it as recreational search and rescue, where you and your dog work together as a team to locate a "missing" person using only their unique scent. Starting with a scented article, your dog will learn to follow the trail while you discover how to read and support them along the way.

Whether you're looking for a fun new activity, a confidence building outlet, or a mentally stimulating challenge for your dog, mantrailing offers something for everyone.

Each week, we train in a different location to help generalise skills and build real world confidence. From the beautiful New Forest to car parks, quiet residential streets to town centres. This variety helps dogs learn to focus and succeed in all kinds of environments.

A friendly, supportive group environment where dogs and their handlers explore new challenges together. Mantrailing offers mental enrichment, focus building, and pure fun for you and your dog!

These sessions are perfect for building teamwork, improving focus, and giving your dog an outlet for their natural drive in a low pressure, enriching setting.

If you have a reactive or nervous dog you are more than welcome to join us - dogs are worked one at a time.

We are based in New Milton Hampshire, but we trail in Christchurch, Southbourne, Lymington and the surrounding areas.

What do you need to get started?

You don’t need lots to get your man trailing journey started, but there is some pieces of equipment we ask you bring for safety.

✨A well fitting Y-fronted harness, we do not trail dogs on a collar or a tightening harness for safety & comfort reasons.

There are lots of good harness’ on the market specifically for mantrailing, we would really recommend investing in one, but your everyday harness is ok to start with!

✨ A 7-10 meter long line, any material is fine but you will need one that you are comfortable handling. IE biothane or webbed

If you do not have suitable equipment please let us know ahead of time, we will have some spare you can borrow.

You will also need to bring…

✨ Something you have worn recently, like a snood, hat or gloves in a ziplock bag (Please do NOT bring used socks)

✨ 3 pots of some smelly food for your dog. Some clients like to bring sardines, wet dog/cat food or cheese.

✨ If your dog is more toy motivated bring their favourite toy

✨ Weather appropriate clothing for yourself - we trail in all weathers provided it is safe to do so

✨ Water, poo bags & any normal training treats
